Vista Q&A with Michael Remedios

What drew you to wealth management?

I worked on a project at the ACLU in Seattle aimed at helping people overcome barriers to housing and employment. I became deeply involved with clients to resolve sensitive personal issues, provide education, and offer support. Unfortunately, our responses to problems were often reactive, which provided us with limited recourse given the circumstances. After college I transitioned into financial planning to take a more proactive role in helping people navigate financial stress and plan for the future.

What do you enjoy most about Vista?

At our core we value learning, both as a firm and for our clients. We always work collaboratively and are committed to providing the best service and continuing to improve as professionals and as a firm.

How should people think about their wealth?

It’s important to find a balance between gratifying the present self vs. delaying satisfaction to save for the future. With proper planning our clients shouldn’t have to think about their wealth constantly and will be feel more at ease with their financial success.

What is the biggest value that Vista brings to clients?

We are not satisfied with the status quo. We are always trying to improve our client experience. We aim to establish meaningful relationships and provide our clients with honest and actionable advice.

What personal accomplishments are you most proud of?

In 2015 I moved back to San Francisco and began coaching the same youth hockey team I grew up playing on, and I have been coaching ever since. My own coaches were such an instrumental part of my personal development growing up. It’s been an incredible journey and I’m blessed to have the opportunity to help kids like my coaches helped me. I get to develop them as hockey players and prepare them for college and the next chapter of their lives.

What's the most influential book you've read and why?

Truman Capote's In Cold Blood. It’s a true crime story with fascinating insight into the human mind.

What do you love to do outside of work?

Coaching and playing ice hockey, soccer, golf, spending time with my family, skiing, hiking in the Pacific Northwest, and attending UW football games.
